  filliou

- First edition. One of 1945 copies. ‘This book is a selective distillate of the notebooks kept by George Brecht and Robert Filliou, the one an American artist and scientist (in whose name there are a number of industrial patents at Washington, D.C.) and the second a southern French sceptic, Robert Filliou, among whose other credits are work on the United Nations white paper on the post-Korean War economic recovery for South Korea and also other economic theses, as well as various uniquely reputed poems, plays, art exhibitions and revolutionary exploits. The Cedilla itself is la Cedille qui Sourit, a shop they operate at Villefranche-sur-mer on the cote d'azure where small works of avant-garde art are sold along with postcards, jewelry (by Donna Jo Brewer/Jones) and all kinds of things which do or do not have a cedilla in their (French) name. And at the Cedilla the notebooks are kept, as the researches are developed, in the manner appropriate to the investigations, with a bottle of either the cheapest pleasant wine or the pleasantest cheap wine, depending upon the occasion. In this way that dread disease to all artists, humorlessitis, is prevented from appearing, and the artists involved (and the others too) remain in good aesthetic health.” (from the back flap). euro 200

  chiari

022. Chiari, Giuseppe. Musica Madre./Mother Music. With text by Tomasso Trini Musica e Insegnamente/Music and Teaching. (Text in Italian and English) Milano: GiampaoloPrearo, 1973. Large beige cloth covered box (3,8x 54,5 x 39,5) containing one book and a large aluminum frame. The book: quarto, 136 pages printed on different colored stock (with on the yellowish stock the Italian and on the greenish stock the English text), 6 illustrations. Beige printed cloth.

- First edition. One of 69 copies with an additional framed (1,8 x 53 x 38)print, signed and dated "Chiari 72". the 69 copies of the special edition correspond with number of word combinations Chiari makes with the word MUSIC. This print reads in large letters "MUSICA MOSAICO" (corresponding with the same combination printed on page 65 of the book). In his afterword Tomasso Trini quotes Gilles Deleuze on the work of Chiari: ‘To vary on the varying...’. I must admit I did not understand for a long time the extreme importance of Chiari’s stand. Being misled by avantgardistic prejudices I suspected that he vindicated an old right to be novel. It is not at all that, but a profoundly modern ideological vindication. ‘To give up the idea of a scale...’, as Chiari says, ‘to give up the articulation is perhaps the greatest effort a man can ask of himself’. As in Musica Madre, where the being different generates itself within the coupling of the two words, all his musical and visual work opposes itself to the sclerotic universe of languages arranged in codes supported by a hierarchy of values and it regenerates itself in a discontinuous series of acts and thoughts since ‘we want to think the difference in itself and the relationship of the different with the different’(de matteis - maffei, 691) euro 850

- First edition. One of 27 titled, numbered, dated and signed copies. Elizabeth Schambelan wrote on the occasion of a retrospective exhibition of Hansen’s work (Andrea Rosen gallery in 2006): ‘…the exhibition … comprised thirty-six modestly sized collages and sculptures dated from 1962 to 1994, most depicting hansen's favorite motif, a stylized and refreshingly endomorphic female figure he called venus. this buxom lady, sometimes constructed from meticulous agglomerations of matchsticks or cigarette butts, is clearly descended from the paleolithic venus of willendorf, but she's also a cousin of tom wesselman's "great american nude"—a pop goddess, as neatly summed up in the punning title venus of shop-rite dorf, 1965. for both wesselman and hansen, the archetypical pictorial subject, the female nude, was a site on which mass media's alternately exhilarating and alienating dislocations of subjectivity could be writ large—in hansen's case, literally so. “ euro 2.800
