  lecorbu ruegg poly..

109. Le Corbusier - Ruegg, Arthur (editor). Le Corbusier - Polychromie architecturale. Farbenklaviaturen von 1931 und 1959 / Color Keyboards from 1931 and 1959 / Les claviers de couleurs de 1931 et de 1959. Basel: Birkhauser, 1997. 3 Quarto sized oblong volumes. Volume I: 173 pages, illustrated throughout. Volume II: Salubra I, 12 cards with color keyboards and Salubra II, 1 card with color keyboard. Four sliders that are kept in pouch that is attached to the inside of the rear cover. Volume III: 63 pages printed on one side with monochrome color swatches. All three volumes in original illustrated slipcase. In original publishers shrinkwrap. This copy also with: ‘The color cards’ (the 63 ‘salubra colors’) presented as a fan (9,5 x 23,5 cm) – attached with one screw in the top left corner and in illustrated slipcase.

- First re-edition. “Le Corbusier designed two collections of colours for the Salubra wallpaper company, the "Clavier de couleurs" of 1931, with 43 colours, and the 1959 collection, with 20. Not content with the choice of 43 colours drawn from his experience as an architect and painter, he organized the tones on 12 sample cards in such a manner that one could use a slider to isolate or combine different sets of three to five colours. Each of these cards contained a different chromatic atmosphere, intended, when used, to produce a particular spatial effect. Thus Le Corbusier not only created a useful tool but also a kind of testament of the purist theory of colour. In 1959 he created a second collection reflecting the changes in his views, with 20 single colours assembled on a single "clavier." euro 250

  muschamp

133. Muschamp, Herbert. File under Architecture. Cambridge: MIT press, 1974. Large octavo, 117 pages printed on brown kraft paper. Printed corrugated boards.

- First edition. Early publication by the architectural critic of the New York Times. "I am an architect who has neither designed nor built any buildings nor has the inclination to do so. I call myself an architect purely out of the comic conceit which is all that remains of the Western architectural tradition. Buildings have such short life spans nowadays, and few bother to look at them anyway. Planning schemes must be revised each year, and still can't keep up. Last winter's cosmic-comical conceptual designs are forgotten with the appearance of the new spring line. Books last longer, take up less space, are easier to take care of, make better gifts than do most buildings. In the last analysis, architecture is not a very highly evolved state of mind."
